Artist in Focus | Paul West
London based artist Paul West draws inspiration from landscapes influenced by his Dorset roots and frequent travels to Northumberland.
Low horizons, huge skies, and the secrets of Woodlands or solitary trees are key features in his work, balancing quiet spaces with frenetic bursts of energy.
West prefers to works with two mediums: one a ‘graphic’ ’monochrome charcoal aesthetic, the other a more fluid colour. Since 2014, he has been working on a photo-etching series entitled “Silent Voices”, continuing his preoccupation with the landscape as an energy that connects us all.
In November West launched the etching series at HIVE Harrogate art fair, and had his work featured in a six page article in issue #3 of ‘Inside Artists’ magazine
